The brief provides the foundation upon which the video consultant plans and costs their program. As such, the quality of your brief is important in receiving high quality, tightly focused proposals from consultants. Legal Aspects of the Brief The brief and the successful consultant's proposal are used as the basis for developing a contract, and as such, the brief attains a legal status. If you are unsure, it is recommend that you consult your legal advisor on the contractual arrangement between yourself and the consultant.
A good brief will:

• clearly define the objectives of the program;
• clearly detail the broad tasks the consultant is to perform;
• facilitate the formulation of an appropriate, high quality proposal, treatment, scope of work;
• facilitate the selection of an appropriate production specialist for the video;
• get your message across with maximum cost effectiveness;
• enable you to evaluate the effectiveness of the project; and
• identify production efficiencies to save time and money.
